Travelling to Bern

By train

Switzerland's railway network is not only well-developed but also most often punctual, offering a high level of comfort even in second-class train sections. Bern is easily reachable from all major cities in Europe, directly or with change in Basel, Zurich or Geneva. In some countries there is also the option of travelling by night trains. More information: https://www.sbb.ch/en/home.html

By plane

Switzerland is home to three international airports: Zurich, Geneva, and Basel-Mulhouse. While there are no direct flights to Bern, the city can be reached from all three airports within 1-2 hours. In Zurich and Geneva, the train stations are located within the airports, providing direct train connections. In Basel-Mulhouse, a shuttle bus operates to Basel SBB train station, offering a direct connection to Bern from there as well. Timetable: https://www.sbb.ch/en

By car

We recommend not arriving by car. Parking in Bern is prohibitively expensive, with a minimum cost of 20 Euros per day at Park-and-Ride facilities on the outskirts of the city. Free parking options are unavailable even far outside the city center. Further, there is a compulsory toll of 40 CHF per year on Swiss highways, to pay at the border.

Reaching University of Bern, UniS building, Room 003

5 minutes from Bern SBB main station. Take the elevator at the end of the underpass in the station building. Direction: University/Grosse Schanze. Walk between the two main university buildings, then turn left 150 meters. Friendly students and passers-by are always happy to help.
