Paulus Preis

Paulus Prize for the Best Work in the Field of the History of Meteorology

Renate and Dr. Rudolf Paulus established a prize at the German Meteorologists Conference in 1998 for the best work in the history of meteorology within the German-speaking area. The aim is to encourage German-speaking scientists to engage with the history of meteorology.

The work must be based on the analysis of historical sources. Preference is given to works that illustrate the connection between the development of meteorology and general historical development or that deal with the development of meteorology before 1900. The works considered must have been completed since the last award.

The award, which consists of a prize money and a certificate, is to be awarded in a three-year cycle.

The winner of the 2025 award is Prof. Stefan Brönnimann from the University of Bern and the OCCR. He is the ninth recipient of the prize and was awarded, among other reasons, for his publication “Weather diary of Georg Christoph Eimmart for Nuremberg, 1695 to 1704.”
