Oeschger Colloquium

How can law — and lawyers — meet the climate challenge? From negotiating ambiguous international agreements to ensuring their implementation and compliance, the role of law is crucial yet challenged with hurdles. In this colloquium, Professor Christina Voigt shares insights from over a decade as Norway’s climate negotiator, her academic work on the Paris Agreement and the PAICC, and her experience advising in high-profile climate cases before international courts. Join us for a first-hand account of the opportunities and limits of law in the fight against climate change — and a critical discussion of what more must be done. Master’s students and Early Career Researchers from Law, Climate and Environmental Sciences, Geography, Political Science, Philosophy and other fields are particularly welcome.

Dr. Christina Voigt is Professor of Law at the University of Oslo, Norway, and a renowned expert in international environmental law. She is passionate about legal issues of climate change, environmental multilateralism, and sustainability. Professor Voigt has published widely on these topics and is a frequent speaker at international and national events. She is Chair of the IUCN World Commission on Environmental Law (WCEL). For more than 10 years, she also worked as legal adviser and negotiator for the Government of Norway in the UN climate negotiations. She is currently the first Co-chair of the Paris Agreement´s Compliance and Implementation Committee.

A networking apéro will be served after the Colloquium in the foyer.
