Researchers who have recently joined the OCCR - June 2026:

Eva Glock is a new PhD with the Cloud dynamics group in the framework of the Swiss Polar Institute Flagship project DOMINO. She completed her Bachelor in Environmental and Sustainability Sciences at the University of Freiburg, Germany, and her Master in Atmospheric and Climate Science at ETH Zürich. Eva brings a strong fascination for Earth systems, especially midlatitude and polar weather dynamics.

Hanyu Xu is a new PhD with the Sedimentary Geochemistry group. He completed his Master in Mathematics at the Technical University of Munich with the thesis “Evaluating the Impact of Data Augmentation Techniques on Prediction Algorithms with a Focus on Energy Systems”. His research focuses on applying data science and machine learning methods to high-resolution imaging data for paleoclimate research. His PhD thesis is entitled “Discovering Biogeochemical Signals of Past Climates through High-Dimensional Lake Sediment Data”.

Geunwoo Lee is a new PostDoc with the Past Climate and Biogeochemical Studies on Ice Cores group. He has already completed his PhD with the same group.

Faranak Zahedinour is a new PhD with the Dendro Sciences group. She completed her Master's in Environmental Sciences and Engineering at Isfahan University of Technology, Iran, with the thesis “Anatomical investigation and identification of annual growth rings in two mangrove species with a vessel-chronology approach”. She will investigate the interplay of atmospheric and soil drought impacts on intra- and inter-annual wood formation of four important European species. Faranak has joined the “Modeling and projecting Soil and Atmospheric Drought impacts on growth dynamics of common European Tree species”-project, also known as SAD-TREE.
